Competition results tell you what happened. Achievements tell the story of your journey. FieldSync's badge system recognizes milestones across your entire athletic career - from your very first login to your 25th competition. With 20 badges spread across 7 categories, there's always something to work toward.
How Badges Work
Badges are awarded automatically. There's no button to click and no form to submit. FieldSync monitors key actions - saving an attempt, following an athlete, creating a meet, setting a goal - and checks whether you've met the criteria for any unearned badge. If you have, it's awarded instantly and a feed event is created so your followers see it too.
The hooks that trigger badge checks are embedded throughout the platform:
- Attempt saves - Checks competition count, PR streaks, placement, and multi-event badges.
- Follows - Checks social badges (follower count, first follow).
- Goal creation & achievement - Checks Goal Setter and Standard Breaker badges.
- Meet creation & publish - Checks director-specific badges.
- Login & signup - Checks onboarding badges (Welcome!).
- Avatar uploads - Checks the Looking Good badge.
The Achievement Tab
Your achievements live on the Achievement tab of your profile. It shows:
- Progress grid - All 20 badges laid out visually. Earned badges are full color; locked badges are grayed out with a description of what's needed to unlock them.
- Category filters - Filter the grid to see only badges from a specific category (Onboarding, Competition, PRs, Placements, Goals, Social, Director).
- Stats summary - How many badges you've earned out of 20, your completion percentage, and a breakdown by category.
- Tier indicators - Each badge has a tier: Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum - reflecting its difficulty. Getting your first result is Bronze; earning 25 competitions is Platinum.
All 20 Badges by Category
Here's every badge in the system, what category it belongs to, how to earn it, and its tier.
👋 Onboarding (3 badges)
These badges recognize your first steps on FieldSync. Every new user can earn all three within minutes of signing up.
- Welcome! (Bronze) - Create your FieldSync account. Awarded automatically at signup.
- Looking Good (Bronze) - Upload an avatar and set your display name. Personalize your profile so athletes and coaches recognize you.
- Fan Mode (Bronze) - Follow your first athlete. Head to Search Athletes, find someone you want to track, and tap Follow.
🏅 Competition (5 badges)
Competition badges reward consistency. The more meets you show up to, the higher you climb.
- On the Board (Bronze) - Record your first competition result in a FieldSync-scored meet. One mark is all it takes.
- Regular (Silver) - Compete in 5 meets. You're becoming a familiar face on the competition circuit.
- Veteran (Gold) - Compete in 10 meets. A decade of competitions shows serious dedication to the sport.
- Iron Athlete (Platinum) - Compete in 25 meets. This is elite-level commitment. Few athletes reach this milestone.
- Multi-Threat (Silver) - Compete in 3 or more different events. Shot put and discus? Add javelin and you've got it. Vertical jumpers who also throw? Even better.
📈 PRs (4 badges)
Personal records are the heartbeat of individual sport. These badges celebrate the marks that define your career.
- New Heights (Bronze) - Set your first personal record. Your journey starts here.
- On a Roll (Silver) - Set 5 personal records across your career. Consistent improvement across events and seasons.
- Record Machine (Gold) - Set 10 personal records. You're rewriting your own records regularly.
- Hot Streak (Gold) - Set a PR in 3 consecutive competitions. This is peak form - you're improving every time you step into the ring or onto the runway.
🏆 Placements (2 badges)
Placement badges recognize where you finish, not just what you throw or jump.
- Champion (Gold) - Win first place in any event. Whether it's a dual meet or a championship, a win is a win.
- Podium Finish (Silver) - Finish in the top 3 in any event. Bronze, silver, or gold - you made the podium.
🎯 Goals (2 badges)
Goal badges reward the planning side of athletics - setting targets and hitting them.
- Goal Setter (Bronze) - Create your first qualifying goal. Pick a competition standard, set it as your target, and start chasing it.
- Standard Breaker (Gold) - Achieve a qualifying goal. Your mark has met or exceeded the standard you set - time to register for that meet.
👥 Social (1 badge)
Social badges recognize your presence in the FieldSync community.
- Rising Star (Silver) - Gain 10 followers on your athlete profile. Other athletes, coaches, and fans are paying attention to your career.
🏗️ Director (2 badges)
These badges are for the people who make meets happen - the directors and officials who keep the sport running.
- Meet Director (Silver) - Create your first meet on FieldSync. Whether it's a dual meet or a regional championship, you've taken the step to modernize your event management.
- Going Live (Gold) - Publish a meet with live results. Your spectators, coaches, and athletes can now follow along in real-time from any device.
Tier Breakdown
The four tiers reflect difficulty and commitment:
- Bronze (5 badges) - Entry-level achievements. Most users earn these within their first few sessions: Welcome!, Looking Good, Fan Mode, On the Board, New Heights, Goal Setter.
- Silver (5 badges) - Intermediate milestones requiring sustained use: Regular, Multi-Threat, On a Roll, Podium Finish, Rising Star, Meet Director.
- Gold (5 badges) - Significant achievements that take real dedication: Veteran, Record Machine, Hot Streak, Champion, Standard Breaker, Going Live.
- Platinum (1 badge) - The rarest badge in the system: Iron Athlete (25 meets). Designed to be a long-term goal that takes multiple seasons to achieve.
Badges + Feed Integration
Every badge you earn creates an event in the Activity Feed. Your followers see a card announcing which badge you unlocked, its tier, and its category. This means badges aren't just personal milestones - they're visible accomplishments that your community can celebrate with you.
You can filter the feed to show only badge events, making it easy to see who's been earning what across the athletes you follow.
Strategy: How to Earn Them All
Some badges come naturally through competition. Others require intentional action:
- Start with Onboarding - Sign up, upload an avatar, set your name, and follow someone. That's 3 badges in under a minute.
- Set a goal early - Create a qualifying goal before your first competition. You'll earn Goal Setter immediately and be tracking toward Standard Breaker.
- Compete regularly - On the Board comes from your first meet. Regular (5), Veteran (10), and Iron Athlete (25) reward showing up consistently season after season.
- Diversify your events - Multi-Threat requires 3+ different events. If you normally throw shot put and discus, try javelin or weight throw at your next meet.
- Chase PRs - New Heights, On a Roll, Record Machine, and Hot Streak all come from setting personal records. Focus training on breaking your own marks.
- Build your following - Rising Star needs 10 followers. Share your profile link with teammates, coaches, and competitors.
